Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I’ve gotten terrible at blogging… ugh.  I’ve decided that my resolution should be to do this more.  I’m thankful that Lydia has posted some stuff about our adventures because I’ve been terrible about it.  I was doing so good for so long!

Anyway… I thought I would post a picture of us from our Christmas celebration that Lydia wrote about in her last post.  Here’s Lydia, Carrie, and I inside the blanket fort we built!  I’m so thankful that I have lovely roomies and that we have fun together.

Have a wonderful New Year, and hopefully you’ll see more of us in the coming months!

Carrie, Lydia and I all had a fabulous time in our blanket fort!

Oh… and it’s only 135 days until graduation!!!!!!!!!!!  May 12, 2012… here we come!!!!!!  🙂

Christmas: A Time of Giving

Well it’s been a while since we had a blog post so I figured since I’m on Christmas break, I could take the time to catch people up on what’s happened.

So far we’ve gotten 3 things checked off our Senior Bucket List: The Germany Trip, The Road Trip, and we managed to build a blanket fort in our living room. We had a lot of fun with the last one. We ended up playing Uno in our fort till like midnight with our suite-mate Carrie. We even listened to classic Christmas music from the 1940s. It was awesome!

Right before our fort building adventure, we exchanged Christmas gifts. I always enjoy seeing friend’s reactions to their gifts. It reminds me that Christmas is about giving, not getting. When Jesus came to earth, He gave up all his heavenly glory and power. Then He gave His life for us on the cross.

I tried to take this spirit of Christmas to heart this year. In my purchase of gifts, I tried to support others in need. That way, not only am I giving to the friends and family I love, I also get to help support other people around the world. Then I also decided to donate 10 inches of my hair to Locks of Love. This Christmas feels so much more meaningful with the spirit of giving being a reality in my life.

Well Merry Christmas to all! I’m sure us two roomies will have plenty more adventures next semester!

Roommate Roadtrip

Well we finally got around to doing another thing on our bucketlist! Since we had a midsemester break at TLU we decided to take advantage of the extra long weekend and go on an adventure!

We started by heading out to San Marcos to meet our mutual friend Rachel. We ended up eating at Cracker Barrel and having a lovely time. I even got to play a interesting game on the table and I won it on my first try!

Well the next day we headed out to San Antonio for a fun-filled day in Six Flags! It was surprising to see how much we could do when there were only two of us! I enjoyed seeing all of the Halloween themed decorations and actors walking around.

The one thing I was not expecting was the one roller coaster I ended up riding, breaking down. I was stuck for like 20 minutes in the sun right outside the station, waiting for the mechanics to fix the ride. So I didn’t ride anymore roller coasters that day.

But we both had a fun time and I don’t think I will ever forget our road trip!
So check off the second thing on our bucket list!

We had fun spinning around on the 8 Ball

Stop and Watch the Sunset, or your Roommate Act Like a Pirate

So I know I haven’t actually written a blog post in a long time. Thankfully Victoria does an awesome job keeping up with this one. But it is a blog for both of us, so here goes.

I’ve noticed recently how all the little moments in life can go by really quickly unless you stop and notice them. I’ve tried this week to actually enjoy life and take advantage of the opportunities I get. The first thing I did was stop and watch the sunset. It was the most beautiful one I’ve seen in a long time, probably because I actually looked at it…and took a few pictures. 🙂

This wasn’t the only thing I’ve done that’s been spontaneous. Today felt like I was in an oven and I was running around so much that it felt even worse and then I thought about the great pool we have here at TLU that I never use! So I decided it was time to actually go swimming! And it felt awesome! I’m so glad I put off homework and just enjoyed the opportunity I had to go swimming. 🙂

But I’m not the only one that is spontaneous. I have a roommate after all and I think we tend to be very similar. So tonight while we were listening to some awesome movie music, the theme for Pirates of the Caribbean came on and Victoria started acting like a pirate. Before long she had a otter for a parrot, a pillow for a hat, a hand for an eye patch and an invisible sword. How’s that for spontaneous!

The Two Roomies Take Coffee House

Hello there, everyone!

It’s been another week for the two roomies.  And this week was pretty exciting, especially Friday night.  Friday night was Coffee House in the chapel, and Lydia and I decided that we should put together an act.  Well, actually, I convinced her that she should do something with me.  But that doesn’t matter.  What matters is that we threw something together and got on stage last night.  :)

We decided to make a list of the 10 essential things that we thought everyone should know about TLU.  We read them off and accompanied our reading with different props.  We were trying to come up with something that was different and unique, so people could see the wide range of talent that can be showcased at coffee house.  Since I don’t know how to get videos to embed (and I don’t think it’s possible with my account), I’ve posted the link to the You Tube video below.  Then everyone who didn’t get to see it can… and some of you might want to watch it again!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z08700p5y3Y&feature=channel_video_title

We had a lot of fun at coffee house.  But today was fun, too.  The lovely Mary Ellen Tolliver (yay, someone else to mention on our blog) is visiting Seguin this weekend, so she’s been hanging out with us a lot.  And that’s fine with me, because we always have a lot of fun with her!  It was my turn to cook tonight… I made tacos.  Yum!

I made rice, too.  It was delicious.  I like tacos… a lot.  I’m glad that I made them.  And here’s some proof that we’re having a lot of fun this weekend with Mary Ellen:

Life is good.  We’re having a good time.  But it’s not all fun and games.  There’s homework to do, too.  That’s what’s next on my agenda.  More to come later! 🙂

Pork Chops and Pigeons: A Linne Labor Day Weekend

Helloooo, blog world!

I will begin by saying that tonight was the most interesting night I’ve had since school started.  And that’s really saying something, because normally things get pretty weird in our apartment late at night.  I’ll blog about those things later; that’s a post entirely in it’s own.  But let me tell you about the past hour in Linne 7.  It’s been pretty entertaining, actually.

Tonight was our second “roommate dinner.”  Well, this was our first “roommate dinner minus Lydia” because she went home for Labor Day weekend.  😦  I’m sad that she missed Brittany’s amazing pork chops, mashed potatoes, and green beans.  They were delicious.

Doesn’t that look amazing?  Brittany did an awesome job.  I enjoyed every bite.  🙂

Carrie was pretty entertaining while she played with her mashed potatoes.  She meticulously made a mashed potato volcano, though we didn’t have gravy so it couldn’t have lava.  But I thought that her volcano was pretty awesome… until she decided to actually eat it.  I guess that’s what you are supposed to do with mashed potatoes, right?

She had way to much fun with this.  It was quite funny, actually.  But the best part of the night came right after dinner, and it included our friends Adrick and Winter.  Adrick brought this children’s book to our apartment because apparently I needed to read it.  It’s titled “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” and it is by far the funniest children’s book I have ever read.  Ever.  You’re told at the start of the book that you can’t let the pigeon drive the bus, and then the pigeon begs you to drive the bus.  He tries to persuade you to, but you’re supposed to say no every time.

We decided that since I was going to read a kids’ book aloud, we all had to sit on the floor (well, at least the girls did).  So we did.  And I read the book aloud to Carrie and Winter who hadn’t read it yet (I read it to myself earlier in the evening, but it was definitely a book that needed to be read aloud).  But I couldn’t stop laughing through the whole thing because Carrie kept making comments to the pigeon.  When the pigeon said something like “I never get to do anything fun!”, Carrie responded by saying, “But you can fly!”  She even threatened to give rice to the pigeon at one point, which I thought was totally mean but it still made my cry because I was laughing so hard.

This is the infamous book.  Thanks, Adrick for bringing it over.  And thank you to both Winter and Adrick for putting up with the silliness of us Linne 7 girls.  We might be a little crazy, but at least you’re not dealing with us at 11:00 at night.  Mwahahahaha!  That’s when the real fun begins! 😉

I’ve had so much fun this weekend.  At first I was kind of sad I didn’t go home, but now I am very happy that I stayed here.  Sorry, mom and dad.  You know I love you… but I needed some time with my girls.  This year has been my favorite year so far! 🙂

New Beginnings and Roommate Dinners

Hi blog world!

Yes, I know. We haven’t blogged in a long time. That is probably due to the fact that it was summer and nothing interesting was happening. OK… maybe some interesting things happened. But nothing worth blogging about. And our blog is titled “A Year in the Life of Two Roomies.” You can’t have a blog without having two roomies together, right? That’s what I thought.

So, now that the new school year is upon us, I figured that it might be a good time to start writing again. It’s time to resurrect our blog… make it interesting again for the whole 5 people who actually read this thing. Plus, I now have pictures of our room to post. And the first real fun and exciting roommate thing we’ve done (alongside our other amazing two apartmentmates) this semester. Not that we haven’t had plenty of adventures the first week of class. Oh, boy, we have! Based on this week, I think it is going to be a very interesting semester.

So… first pic. It’s of our room. Actually, it’s a couple of pictures of our room. I couldn’t get a good picture of the whole thing in one shot. Looks like a good college room, right? It sure is!

My side of the room is pink.  Really pink.  Pink is my favorite color right now.  And I love New York.  Can you tell?  Last year I had a whole wall devoted to that city.  This year I don’t because of space.  That makes me a little sad.  And my bookshelf is kind of a mess… but luckily that will change once my amazing daddy comes tonight to fix it.  That’s how awesome he is.

I even posted the bucket list on a closet door so we’d see it.  Hopefully as the year progresses we’ll get everything crossed off!

So… what fun thing could we have done already with our apartmentmates?  Was it walking across TLU’s very own Sahara Desert (aka the North Halls/Apartments parking lot) to class?  Was it spending today learning how to appreciate music by reading my Music Appreciation book?  Was it watching all the new freshmen audition for the first time this week?  Don’t get me wrong, those are all fun things that I’ve done this week (well, minus the Sahara thing and the homework).  But the best moment came from our first-ever Roommate Dinner!!!!

Carrie made this awesome spaghetti and garlic bread.  It was delicious!  And we all had a nice laugh over dinner, too.  Especially when I snapped this picture of the rowdy bunch:

This picture makes me crack up every time I see it.  Brittany (she’s on the right) gave me a pretty smile.  I think she’s enjoying the moment.  Carrie (she’s on the left) is making her “creeper face.”  I think that’s a good way of describing it.  And Lydia doesn’t care that I’m taking the picture… she’s too busy eating her spaghetti.  But I don’t blame her.  It was really good!  Great job, Carrie!  And now you’ve made it on our blog.  I told you that you would!  Mwahahahaha!  You can now see how crazy all 4 of us are.  I think we were made to live together.

So, life is good for the two roomies.  School has started and there are papers to write (one of which I started today… kind of) and books to read.  I promise that as the school year gets going we’ll blog more.  Now that we’re together again, we’re bound to get ourselves into all sorts of trouble.  ‘Cause that’s just what the two roomies do.

I hope everyone is keeping cool out there… or staying dry… depending on the region you live in!  More will come about our crazy and awesome senior year!  🙂

We’re Ammending the Bucket List!

The two roomies have created the Senior Bucket List.  And we thought when we wrote it that it was perfect.  Well, the roomies reserve the right to ammend and change it when necessary… and we’ve decided to “switch out” one of the things we want to do.  So, here’s our ammended Bucket List.  The bold print shows the change.  And we get to cross the first thing off of our list, because we’ve done it already!

–Go on a trip to Europe

–Have a 24-hour “Psych” marathon

–Go on a road trip

–Make a blanket fort in our living room

–Climb to the top of the chapel bell tower

–Midnight trip to Wal-Mart

–Glue down a penny in the penny line on campus

–Victoria: Have tea with Victoria T.

–Go shopping in downtown Seguin

–Have a roommate candlelight dinner

–Visit the pecan trees in Starcke Park

–Get margaritas together

–See how many people we can fit around a round table at Hein

Instead of watching movies for 24 hours, we’ve decided to watch “Psych” instead.  It’s my fault that Lydia is hooked to it now… I introduced her the awesomeness last season and she got hooked.  And we started watching together.  Well, I found out that her amazing sister got her seasons 1 and 2 on DVD for her birthday (thank you, Alicia!!!!).  I already have seasons 3 and 4, so we decided that we should just watch Psych for 24 hours.  We can do it.  And it might be a little more doable than full-length movies for 24 hours.  Maybe we’ll do it after my birthday, when I could possibly get season 5 on DVD (take the hint, mom and dad).

Or we’ll do it as soon as school starts, because we have to wait until OCTOBER for the new season.  I don’t know.  We’ll see when we have time.

That’s all to write for now.  It’s still summer, and we’re still apart.  But soon we will be reunited, and the world will be at balance again.  But I’ll still have fun, even without my roomie.  The next week of my life is going to be so much fun.  I’m going back to CAMP!!!!!!  This time as a sponsor!!!!!  I’m excited about going back to Chrysalis.  Hopefully I’ll get some good pictures, and some good stories, and I’ll blog about it when I get back.

To whoever is nice enough to read this, have a good week!  And keep cool!   🙂

I miss my roomie… :(

So…. once again, the blog has been abandoned for quite a while.  Mostly because neither of us have had anything interesting happen over the past few weeks.  In fact, Lydia and I had a discussion about this when we met for lunch about a week ago.  It’s hard being apart for so long.  And it’s even harder when nothing exciting is happening.  I’ve got a couple of big weeks coming up, so hopefully I can be on top of things and write more!

Anyway, I mentioned before that Lydia and I had lunch together just over a week ago.  It’s because we were both in Seguin at the same time, crashing a wedding.  OK… we didn’t actually crash a wedding (we’ll leave that job to Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn), Lydia got to go to a wedding with me.  Yes, my roomie was my “date.”  And we had a fabulous time.  At the reception we sang.  A LOT.  And we decided that we have a new special song.  It used to be a tie between Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Vertigo” by U2.  Now it’s Bruno Mars’ song “Just the Way You Are.”  I think that one will stick!

If only Lydia were here right now… I’m cooking like crazy this weekend and this afternoon I’ve found a channel that’s playing Psych all day.  I wish I could share this awesomeness with her.  Instead, I have my kitty cats.  But right now, since I’m their sole guardian for a few days, they’re feeling more like children than kitties…

It was nice getting to see my roomie, even if it only was for a few hours.  I miss our late night heart-to-hearts and our long laughing fits.  I miss our “super secret spy missions.”  Most of all, I miss seeing my best friend every day.  It’s hard being apart during the summer.  How in the world will I ever deal with the fact that after graduation we might not see each other every day… for a really LONG TIME????  I guess I shouldn’t think about that now.  I guess for now, we have our fun.  We have our friendship.  And we have each other.  Even when we are apart.

I might miss my roomie now, but I know we’ll see each other again soon.  And it’s moments like the one pictured below that I will always cherish forever!  🙂

The Bucket List… in Poster Form!

So, as I was cleaning my room today (yes, mom, I DID work…) I found this poster that I bought freshman year.  I don’t even remember why I bought it.  I think it was my time to buy something for the suite, and my suitemates insisted that I buy this poster.  I remember hanging it up in the bathroom.  But anyway, I found this poster and it made me think of our bucket list for senior year.  All of the things on this “to-do” list capture the essence of a bucket list–why we want this list, and why it’s important that we do all of the stuff on this list.  At least, I think that this poster captures that essence.

Here’s the poster:

What does this poster tell us?  It tells us that sometimes we should do those silly things… those crazy things… those things that we normally wouldn’t do everyday.  Why?  Because we don’t know how many days we actually have.  So we have to make the moments count when we have them!  I think that’s what our bucket list is about.  We only have (now less than) a year until we’re out in the world on our own… until we are out of school… and who knows when we’ll be able to go on a road trip, or build a blanket fort, together again.  So we have to make every moment count.  And I hope that we can do that this year!

Which thing on our “to-do” list is your favorite?  I like the one that says “laugh till it hurts”… the two roomies do that A LOT!!!  Feel free to chime in below!  🙂
